Yes. You can run one set on one host, for non-commercial use, free forever. That covers homelab, hobby, learning, charity, and evaluation. The only requirement is that you sign in and accept the non-commercial clause in the End-User Licence Agreement.
No. The free tier asks for no card and no payment details — you simply create an account, accept the EULA, and install. Payment details are only needed when you buy a paid licence.
Binions is £1 per binion. Because the daemons are sold as one fixed set, the price is simply the size of the set — currently 13 binions, so £13 for a paid set. That is a one-time purchase per host, and it covers your whole major version. As new binions are added in future versions, the set price rises by £1 each (for example, 14 binions would be £14). Any tax for your country is added at checkout.
No. It is free forever, not a trial. There is no countdown, no expiry, and no automatic downgrade. As long as you stay within one set on one host for non-commercial use, it stays free.
A set is the complete collection of Binions daemons running on one host — currently 13 background services that cover email, web APIs, databases, files, AI, scheduling, industrial hardware, and more. You licence the whole set as one unit, per host.
No. You never licence a single daemon on its own — you always licence the whole set. This keeps things simple: one host, one set, one licence.
One licence covers one set on one host. Your free licence covers a single non-commercial host. Every additional host needs its own paid set — even for non-commercial use, only the first non-commercial host is free.
No. New daemons join your set automatically within your major version at no extra cost. Buying a set means buying the set as it grows across that major line, not a fixed list of 13.
Good to know. Your licence also covers a whole major version line — every update within the major (for example, across the 1.x series) is included. A new major version is a new licence; see Renewals & upgrades.
Your seller of record is SmartX Technologies Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. They handle the sale, the invoice, and the licence you receive.
Payment is handled securely through Stripe. You enter your card details on the checkout, Stripe processes the payment, and your licence is issued once payment succeeds. Your card details are handled by Stripe, not stored by Binions.
Tax is calculated automatically by Stripe Tax based on the country you buy from. Buyers in the EU see local VAT added at checkout; buyers outside the EU see net prices. The exact tax for your country is always displayed before you confirm.
Refund eligibility and the terms that apply to your purchase are shown at checkout and in the Terms on binions.io. After purchase you receive a one-time activation token for your host. You install Binions and apply the token, which binds the licence to that machine. The full walkthrough is in Activating a licence.
Yes. A licence is for one machine at a time. To move it, release the licence on the old host — this frees the activation — then activate on the new host. The token rotates when you release, so a fresh one-time token is issued for the next install.
Commercial use is paid from the very first host, and you provide your company details at checkout. The free non-commercial tier cannot be used commercially. For where the line falls, see Commercial vs non-commercial.
