This glossary defines the words used across the Licensing and Security pages. Binions licensing is deliberately simple: you license one complete set per host, and everything else — lanes, tokens, redeeming, and rotation — exists to keep that licence tied to your machine and easy to move when you reinstall. The terms below explain each piece in one sentence.

| Set | The full set of 13 binions on one host; what a licence covers. |
| Lane | Your ongoing entitlement to run one set on one host; it persists across reinstalls. |
| Token | A one-time install key within a lane; it rotates each install/uninstall cycle. |
| Redeem | Activate a token during install; it then binds to the host. |
| Release | Hand a token back on uninstall; it is invalidated and a fresh one is issued. |
| Token rotation | Releasing a token invalidates it forever and issues the next token in the lane, so an old licence file can’t be reused. |
| Host fingerprint | A value derived from stable machine identifiers that binds a redeemed licence to one host. |
| Revocation list (CRL) | The signed list of invalidated tokens, refreshed automatically. |
| Free tier | One set, on one host, for non-commercial use, free of charge. |
| Non-commercial | Personal, hobby, education, or charity use; the only use the free tier allows. |
| Commercial | Any business use; it is paid and requires company details. |
| EULA | The end-user licence agreement you accept (including the non-commercial clause for the free tier). |
| Major-version gate | The check that an upgrade across a major version is covered by your licence. |
| Customer portal | The site (portal.binions.io) where you manage lanes, tokens, and installs. |
| Pricing | £1 per binion, so the 13-binion set is £13 one-time per host; the free tier is £0. |
